Getting to know the maker of huda

Huda Kattan is an Iraqi-American woman who was born in Oklahoma City, raised in Tennessee, and has also lived in Dubai and Los Angeles. She actually started her beauty blog while living in Dubai and she sold her first Huda Beauty products in 2013 in Dubai, where the company is still headquartered. The first Huda Beauty products sold were false eyelashes, which were a huge hit especially after the Kardashian sisters publicized that they love wearing them.

Huda Beauty has since started its offerings to include foundations, concealers, lipsticks, eyeshadows, setting powders, highlighters, and brushes. In this year alone, Huda Beauty did more than $250 million in retail, with the goal of expanding beyond their Dubai headquarters to offices in the U.S. and the U.K.

She originally worked in finance, but she changed gears when she realized that she wanted to pursue her passion for makeup. She has taken many roles in the beauty world as a blogger, makeup artist, an influencer and eventually the owner to the billion-dollar brand. From the beginning, she was determined to make the brand recognised by each and everyone in the world. She always made sure to acknowledge her followers on instagram with new tutorials and updating them about new products.

Huda kattan has been running her company for the past five years, supported by her two sisters Mona and Alya Kattan as global president and chief Instagram officer, and her husband, Chris Goncalo, as COO. Kattan says that she is still developing as a leader–a journey that’s at the center of her new Facebook Watch show, Huda Boss

Influencing and marketing

Micro-influencers are people who have between 1,000 to 1,00,000 followers on a social media platform including Instagram. They typically produce high level of engagement with their posts and help brands reach their target market, helping brands to reach customers in oversaturated markets.

In 2017, a micro-influencer shared a video post featuring Huda Beauty products with the hashtag #hudabeauty. The post gained over 6 million views even though the beauty influencer actually had just around 34,000 followers at the time. This indicates that micro-influencers play a huge role in making any product successful or to drag it down.

Success at it's peak

Huda Beauty continues to grow as it has recently launched a line of perfume, called Kayali, and a line of skincare products, called Wishful. Huda Kattan’s success is a strong example for how influencers can capitalize on their large following and dive into several business ventures.

Huda swears by being as authentic as possible and her huge following has enjoyed that authenticity through the years. Huda Beauty is currently valued at over $1.2 billion as the brand continues to lure its fans with its trendsetting ways and high-quality, innovative products.

Accomplishments and achievements

Huda achieved popularity on attaining more than 47 million followers as of 2020. It is ranked #1 on the '2017 Influencer Instagram Rich List', earning $18,000 for each post as a sponsored content. Huda has been described as 'A Kim Kardashian West of the beauty influencer economy' and was declared one of the 'ten most powerful influencers in the world of beauty' by Forbes magazine. She was chosen as one of the '25 Most Influential People on the Internet' by time magazine in 2017.
